Rapid Air Alerts to Ukrainian Android Users

Google is rolling out a rapid Air Raid Alerts system for Android users in Ukraine. As the Russian invasion continues, it’s important to stay informed. “Tragically, millions of people in Ukraine now rely on air strike alerts to try to get to safety. ” Google said in a statement Thursday. “This work is supplemental to the country’s existing air raid alert systems and based on alerts already being delivered by the Ukrainian government”.

The events of yesterday show that Russia is not going to let up on the terror they are unleashing on Ukraine. Soon after bombing a maternity and children’s hospital in Mariupol, Russian forces needlessly shelled residential homes in Volnovakha. Google announced they are developing a free/discounted hotel program for refugees in Ukraine. More than 2 million refugees have left the country as of Thursday. Google also has added resources for asylum seekers leaving Ukraine. This includes an SOS Alert on Search.”As we compile this information over the coming weeks, we will make it possible for people to quickly find these places on Search and Maps,” Google said.

Google has paused most of its commercial activities in Russia, and this includes how the company uses the Cloud, pays for services and features and tries to earn money from YouTube viewers. Google has previously suspended its ad business in Russia and disabled live traffic data in Ukraine for safety.
