Effective from 15th of June is the abolition of roaming charges for mobile phone and other device users. Now that you can use your data to surf the web, send messages and call with no cost, it’s easier than ever to stay in touch with loved ones while out of the country.
In particular, if you are travelling within the EU, then your mobile phone plan will follow you until you have used up your in the sack time.
The agreement concerns wholesale rates, which are the prices telecoms operators charge each other when their customers are roaming in other EU countries and use networks that aren’t their home provider. Discussion on the proposal took place on Wednesday in Strasbourg. That way, from this Thursday onwards, roaming charges will no longer be applied.
The new regulation also states that it will “allow the opening of markets to small telecoms companies.” So now, instead of having a lighter obligation by the telcos, they have an obligation and what they advertise is obsolete because it is not applicable.
