The cost of hacking in social media

A recent UK financial institution, Nationwide Building Society, decided to check the true financial cost of hacking into our social media accounts. They found that up to a quarter of people hacked actually lost money. Regardless of the financial cost, confidential personal information leaked and money was lost.

Links on their page from their friends fooled them when they suddenly appear in the inbox telling them to look at an old photo. When they click the link, total disaster ensues. 1 out of 5 younger users have been hacked. Furthermore, 1 in 9 have lost money. At the same time, 7% of people have unwittingly given their confidential personal information to shady websites that only have malicious purposes in mind.

Almost half of people store sensitive information such as passwords on their mobile phones. As if that wasn’t enough, Nationwide made revelations, the more online social media activities you’re engaging in, the higher your risk level. Screening photos, holiday info, school info and so on, scammers right now can set you up for a fraud attack. There are several reasons why downloading apps from third-party websites is equally dangerous. More importantly, it can also lead to various security concerns.
