Next generation PlayStation
Sony has announced a number of new and exciting technologies incorporated into the next generation PlayStation. Not only are there new capabilities, but it is also very affordable and convenient for anyone who loves playing online games.
Leaked information showed that Sony’s US head, Mark Cerny, admitted to using plagiarized work in game development processes. Sony remains mum on whether the next-gen PlayStation will be called PlayStation 5 or not. A leaked document reveals that AMD’s third-generation Ryzen processors might power the new console. Sony and Nvidia are working together on a line of graphics processors which will be based on Nvidia’s Navi chip.
The hardware upgrade, expectedly, will offer a superior looking portfolio of video game titles compared to the older PS4 and PS4 Pro. It’s not just about the graphics anymore. The new Navi GPU will offer “ray tracing,” which is a technology that improves brightness-related effects in a video game or computer-processed movie. As much as differences between professional and amateur videos might seem insignificant to some, this new development sounds like it must bring about the biggest changes yet to gaming & movies alike.
Ray-tracing lighting allows you to simulate light more accurately than other methods, resulting in a more realistic and immersive experience.
Ray tracing has been used for years in production, and recently it marked an increase. It’s realistic and allows for more freedom in lighting techniques than other techniques like matte painting. There has been a recent push to integrate AI in games and this is because it requires significant processing power to create realistic visuals. It’s important for the visuals of a game to be consistent and the computer must be able to do almost all its work.
It’s still unknown how exactly Sony plans to implement this new technology in their games. Ray tracing has used would improve visual quality until now. Its has a consequence of a decline in the overall game smoothness. In these cases, many gamers tend to lower the graphics settings for smoother gameplay. They can also disable ray tracing entirely if they want a more casual experience with their games.
