On this TECHDAY in history, on March 12th 1989, Tim Berners-Lee made a first suggested proposal for a data-sharing service while working at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Later that year, he made his first successful transfer between an HTTP client and server.
Tim Berners-Lee developed the World Wide Web as an info-sharing system in 1989. He realized he was spending a lot of time learning various databases just to access the data he needed for various organizations, and decided to create a more standard system.
Despite being a double-edged sword, the internet has still managed to accomplish so much and will continue to grow. It has changed the way we communicate and share information, and it has allowed us to transfer vast amounts of data more easily than we ever thought possible. Thanks to that the average person is able to enjoy being able to video chat with their parents on the other side of the country without any lag. Or being able to check their bank balance instantly. Or listen to whatever song they want at any time. Even though we’re in a period of reckoning with what we want the internet to be, we can all agree that it has changed the world.
