Pioneer 10 launch | Human Tech left the solar system | Techday, June 13th
On this TECHDAY in history, on June 13th 1983, the NASA space probe Pioneer 10 crossed the orbit of Neptune and became the first object created by the man to leave our Solar System. On March 2nd, 1972, this satellite was launched toward the red star Aldebaran which is part of the Taurus constellation. The last contact with this satellite was made on January 23 of 2003.
Pioneer 10 was the first spacecraft to travel through the asteroid belt and make a flyby of Jupiter.
After the Jupiter flyby, it continued on its journey out of the solar system. It made a number of additional discoveries, including the first direct measurements of the solar wind and the detection of cosmic rays originating outside of our solar system.
Pioneer 10 was in contact with Earth until the last successful communication was on January 23, 2003. After this point the spacecraft’s transmitter turned off and its mission was complete.
