Birthday of Alessandro Volta | Inventor of the battery | Techday, February 18th
On this TECHDAY in history, on February 18th 1745, Alessandro Volta (full name Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Gerolamo Umberto Volta), Italian inventor of the battery, was born. Although studies on the subject had already existed, and Benjamin Franklin had already used the term “battery” as early as 1749 to describe a capacitive device in his experiments, Volta was the first to give a scientific description of the electric column. Volta is also the one to introduce the concepts of voltage and electrical capacitance.
