Pac Man released | One of the most famous games launched | Techday, May 22nd
On this TECHDAY in history, on May 22nd 1980, one of the most famous figure in videogame history, Pac Man, was “born”. The now legendary game, with its “smiling” hero whose goal is to eat dots and with four ghosts trying to catch him. In addition to that, this simplistic videogame features an additional four “power pills” that allow for a short time to reverse the conditions and the hunted to become the hunter, while various other bonuses sporadically appear in the center of the track that offer extra points if eaten. Namco, its “parent” company, installed the first Pac-Man arcade in the lobby of a Tokyo movie theater.
The maze action game was developed for arcades. The player controls Pac Man and, while avoiding four coloured ghosts, must eat all dots in the maze. Flashing dots, the Power Pellets, cause the ghost to turn blue and vulnerable, if the player eats them.
