
Altair World Computer Conference | Techday, March 27th
On this TECHDAY in history, on March 27th 1976, Bill Gates opened the First Annual Altair World Computer Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. MITS, the company that developed Altair, had set up shop in the southwestern city to develop its computer kit, which became a hit with hobbyists after it graced the cover of Popular Electronics magazine. Gates, then a 20-year-old Harvard student, had helped develop the form of BASIC sold with Altair.
The conference featured a wide range of keynote speakers, panel discussions, and workshops on topics related to the latest technological developments and their impact on various industries.
