Hot-air balloon flight | Public demonstration of the Montgolfier brothers flight | Techday, June 5th
On this TECHDAY in history, on June 5th 1783, the Montgolfier brothers first publicly demonstrated the ascent of an unmanned hot-air balloon 11m. in diameter. On 19 September of the same year, their balloon Aerostat Réveillon flew with the first living creatures in a basket attached to it: a sheep, a duck and a rooster.
The two brothers were aviation pioneers, balloonists, even paper manufacturers. On the turn of the century they presented followup inventions, for example of the self-acting hydraulic ram. Furthermore, they founded the paper-making vocational school. Together they also invented the transparent paper.
Fun fact, they had a paper making origin from descend. Their family had 16 children! Their inventiveness and business oriented mind helped them support the family business. All the Dutch innovations were incorporated in their family mills.
