Sinclair ZX81 introduced | A new affordable home computer | Techday March 5th
The “british” Sinclair ZX81 was a mass-produced home computer and the successor to the ZX80. On this TECHDAY in history, on March 5th 1981, a year after the release of the first computer to break the 100£ barrier in the United Kingdom, Sinclair Research returned with an even cheaper – although better – model. The ZX81 would then travel across the Atlantic to the US market via Timex, and would be sold there for less than 100$.
The Sinclair ZX81 was a home computer released in 1981 by Sinclair Research Ltd. Designed small, simple and inexpensive, it became a popular choice for many people who wanted to learn programming or use a computer for basic tasks.
The ZX81 came with a version of the BASIC programming language built-in, and users could write and run their own programs or load and run programs from cassette tapes. It also had a number of built-in programs, including a simple word processor and a machine code monitor.
