5+1 moves to free up memory

5+1 moves to free up memory

How many times have you been unable to take a photo because of insufficient memory on your phone? Watching a breathtaking sunset or meeting a childhood friend and not being able to capture the moment?

Saving space on your phone is not as difficult and complicated as you might think. Don’t worry, here are a few simple steps to never miss the perfect caption again.

Choose a cloud storage service and spend your footage there

85% of Android users have a Google Photos app downloaded on their device, which automatically backs up photos when you connect to WiFi. It even has a Free Up Space feature that deletes any old photos in the cloud. You can download the app or go to settings and give it your WiFi password to enable faster backups. Make sure that media is backed up when the device is connected to Wi-Fi and that important folders are set to have backups automatically.

When the backup is finished, go to your settings and select Free up space. Follow the steps to delete files stored on your phone and see how much memory capacity you gain back. To avoid the cost of cloud apps, you can store files offline.

If you are using Windows and you want to connect your phone to your computer, simply use the USB cable. Now you can easily and quickly transfer the photos and videos from your phone to your computer without holding and dragging them. The computer will be able to detect a photo or video as a device automatically, so there is no need for drivers to be installed.

If you’re using a Mac and have the Google Photos app downloaded onto your device, you can drag & drop photos from your Android phone to your computer.

Delete old documents and emails

When you download files to your computer, the first thing you should do is open your list of downloads. There, you’ll find all the files that were downloaded. To delete a file, drag and drop it on to the trash can on that screen and press delete when given the option.

Delete apps you don’t use

It’s a good idea to remove any heavy apps you’re not using on your phone. Removing them will be one of the more efficient moves to free up memory and give your phone more room for other things you might need.

There are two different ways to uninstall apps from your phone: you can go into your main menu and find the app you want to uninstall, then long-tap on it and drag it into the Uninstall button or you can tap on the Uninstall button in the main menu.

Sometimes you may think you’ve deleted all the apps you don’t want by simply deleting their icons from the home screen. But, unfortunately, this often creates an issue with various versions of that app installed and currently running on your device. You can try removing them manually by uninstalling each of them one-by-one but this is extremely time consuming and tedious. But in some cases this means that you just deleted the shortcut icon while the app remains installed on your device (you can’t directly delete apps from the home screen on all Android devices).

The best way to get rid of the apps you don’t want once and for all is from the Apps menu found in your phone’s settings.

You can even find a list of downloaded apps on Google Play by going to Settings > My apps & games, and hit the installed tab. To delete apps from this list just tap on it and select Uninstall.

Don’t be afraid to delete old apps just because you once paid for them: any paid apps you’ve downloaded on Google Play can be reinstalled at no extra charge.

Expand your memory.

The more free space you have, the more likely you are to avoid any problems.

If your device accepts a microSD card, put one in it and set it to store all your media.

If your device doesn’t support the microSD card you can use the Google Photos app. The truth is that it’s good to download this free app anyway to ensure that your photos are automatically backed up and that you can access them from any device you connect to your Google account.

Start recording videos at a lower resolution

Most new phone models come with 4K resolution. But with such a high resolution, the videos you record take up a lot more of your device’s memory. You can choose to shoot videos at a lower resolution so that you can save valuable space.

Make saving memory a habit

Clear your phone’s memory often so you don’t run out of space at the most inopportune times.

These were among the most useful steps to begin with. What do you think on the 5+1 moves to free up memory proposed?
