Record increase in video game

Record increase in video game

Video game purchases have been on the rise all year long, but in March they began to surge just as it seemed as if people may be more nervous and were trying to find enjoyable things to do due to the coronavirus.

Restraining orders due to coronavirus have locked us in our homes with many looking for outlets to kill time. One solution is watching TV or reading books. Some people are bored with being tied to their desk, and they’re turning their attention on other aspects of life. They decided on video games that provide a small escape from the routine of isolation. Spending on gaming by consumers is reaching record levels, mainly due to the quarantine sparked in part by the #METOO movement and its effects.

Sales of console games rose to $1.5B in February, showing an increase from previous sales levels. PC game sales also rose, but not as much – this is because PC gaming is a more accessible pastime for lots of people who don’t have consoles at home. The categories of video games that are particularly popular in Europe and the US are sports and first person shooter games. They’re also subject to strict lockdown restrictions, limiting the spread of coronavirus.

“People are turning to video games, which are a safe distraction during the covid-19 crisis, and are using multiplayer games to stay in touch with each other,” SuperData commented. Video game turnover in the global market shows an 11% increase in March, according to SuperData. This market is expected to move at a slower pace than before, as restrictions will be removed “gradually.”
