Android smartphone backups at risk

Android smartphone backups at risk

In 2017, Google announced that they would delete all backups of your Android device if you didn’t use it for 2 months unless there was a major issue. Google has been updating its system stability and more recently, they’ve introduced additional features in the Google One subscription like Android backups. However, there is a new update tested and it seems that the service could be compromised. Let’s take a closer look at it to figure out what this means for your account.

The good news

Last month, Google announced a feature called Android Backup. With this feature, subscribers were able to back up both photos and videos sent within the stock messaging app and saved them in their original quality.

Google One subscribers were paying for more storage space, so many people thought that this was the only reason why Android devices could backup multimedia content. However, some experts say that this is not the case.ย  Well, according to Google, only the backups and MMS content considered inactive after 57 days can be deleted.

Similarly, much of Google’s commercial business is based on its cloud capabilities, which provide users with 15GB of free Drive storage. Even though the folder was out-of-sight on their computer, the user didn’t have to worry about its removal without their knowledge.

Unfortunately,Google Drive doesn’t protect Android devices. For whatever reason, they have to take their own backups of data and store those offline. Google’s servers store all of your device’s data. You can’t even have a copy of the information, which means making any changes to it would be virtually impossible without backing them up elsewhere first. Google has complete control over every Android device that syncs with their servers, for better or for worse. Certainly, the company will handle the situation with Android smartphone backups at risk.
