
In-display fingerprint sensor presented in CES 2018 by Vivo in collaboration with Synaptics
Vivo is going to be the first company to use an in-display fingerprint sensor for its upcoming smartphone. The company has a booth at CES 2018 and the technology is on display there.
“An in-display fingerprint sensor on a production smartphone today is an exciting step forward as consumers wait for their futuristic mobile experience. We are excited to make it available to the public in a few months.” Vivo Vice President, Alex Feng, made the statement. Synaptics has already started mass production of these sensors. Vivo is the first to announce a phone in collaboration with them.
Vlad Savov, the Verge’s writer, already tested out the sensor and was, as explained, bewildered by the experience. To his surprise neither Apple nor Samsung were the first to ontroduce to consumers this innovation. After getting his hands on the flagship device on CES 2018, he found that it is slower than traditional sensors. At this point, it is understandable that the mechanics have space for technical improvement – of course because it is a brand new technology that is starting just now to evolve.
