The golden market for old video games

A used Mario game stored in a sealed case broke all records at auction recently. It is not that unusual to see video games climb to the value of art, but this one set the bar sky high. The price it received was fiscally impressive, as well as historically significant.

One of the most classic games launched in 1985 and is one of the first versions made for the popular Nintendo Entertainment System console. The cardboard it is sealed in was used in limited editions in the US and replaced with plastic around 1995.

Record Auction

The Nintendo Entertainment System classic Super Mario Bros sold for a record price at auction in Dallas, Texas. The sale demonstrated how well games can hold their value and help ensure future generations of potential gamers get the chance to experience them. Games from the 1980s and 90’s are in rediscovery again, which means that these are popular times to be part of the video game-playing community. They were selling for up to $700,000 each at auction.

Super Mario Bros has another record – 100.150$

Video games have been evolving and some of them are so popular that their sales are worth billions of dollars, which is great news for getting a new game or even buying an old game.

Last decades’ increase

Piers Harding-Rolls, a video games expert analyst says that games have increased in value dramatically over the last two decades. Video game collectors now trade with each other usually on sites like Ebay or GameStop and they often sell rare, old editions. “Designers are touting these items as capturing childhood nostalgia for many 30- and 40-something collectors.,” he added.

There are a lot of different ways to make money in this world, and some of the most lucrative are to work for yourself. Reportedly, the top listed games on Rarest.org, which is a website dedicated to rare and valuable video games, have proven their worth at attaining wealth over the years.
