“smart glasses” for visually impaired

“smart glasses” for visually impaired

FORTH is participating in a project that focuses on improving quality of life for the aged workforce and the visually impaired. The smart glasses the company will develop will assist older people with tasks like cooking and outdoor walking.

European Union’s Horizon 2020 funded the project with โ‚ฌ4 million over three years. Horizon involves 12 partners from 5 different countries, including universities, research centres and businesses. The team has been working on a project to develop ‘smart glasses’. You can install them in both mobile phones and computers to provide a digital solution for older workers who have visual impairments. Our goal is to create a healthier and safer workplace overall.

AI technology will contribute to making work feel seamless, while allowing older employees to maintain and renew their skills so they don’t require personal care in the future. It also supports people with independent living needs. “See Far” smart glasses will adapt to people’s needs, ensuring safer exploration indoors and outdoors.

Machine learning, augmented reality and eye-tracking technology will create a personal assistant that can help analyze a person’s work. FORTH has been integral in developing new MRI devices and the staff of FORTH typically conduct research in the department of Biomedical Research or Computational Biomedicine Laboratory. From Greece, the company Prisma Electronics participated.
