
The first 8K TV channel | BS8K Channel
2001: A Space Odyssey is a science fiction movie by the popular director, Stanley Kubrick that helped launch the world’s first super-high definition in Japan. NHK Japan’s public media organization has asked Warner Bros to send over the negatives of the film in 8K for its new channel.
NHK is a Japanese TV station that claims that it has been developing 8K since 1995. Besides the better picture resolution, broadcasts include 24 audio channels so that you can enjoy the immersive surround sound experience. Companies such as Samsung and LG have announced 8K-capable TVs, but they are still too expensive for mass consumer adoption.
BS8K Channel
This new channel, BS8K, will broadcast programming for 12 hours a day. The first broadcast was quite informative and provided details about future broadcasts by the channel.
NHK reported that 2001: A Space Odyssey was scheduled for the launch night, and it’s the perfect movie for viewers to enjoy a ‘masterpiece of film history.’ Though most films are shot on 35mm film, 2001 was shot on 65mm, the highest quality available at the time.
“The many famous scenes are made even more vivid, with the attention to detail that was the hallmark of director Stanley Kubrick expressed in the unique images, creating the feeling that you are truly on a journey through space,” a statement from the NHK said.
