The most powerful supercomputer | The Nvidia Summit
The US has regained the title of having the fastest supercomputer in the world. It’s name is Summit, and it surfaced its first appearance on Friday 9 June at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. The monster of a machine has 27,648 Nvidia Volta Tensor Core GPUs and 9,216 CPUs inside it and It’s the same size as 2 tennis courts. It is as heavy as a normal passenger plane and it has fiber optic cables that reach nearly 300 kilometers.
Nvidia claims that Summit can handle 200 quadrillion floating-point operations per second (FLOPS). It was built for the US Department of Energy, and will also help scientists in materials discovery research, physics, health and more. Nvidia’s powerful new Summit AI computer will be able to create software with an AI expert’s level of creativity. Human programmers can’t compete.
