During the Google I/O opening keynote, a number of new features were introduced related to Android Studio, Jetpack Compose, developing apps for Android tablets, and optimizing Wear OS.
Here’s what you need to know:
There is an update to the Android Studio, which developers use to create Android apps. The new Android Studio Canary build is now out and shows how the next significant update will roll out: live edit. This provides developers with new features that allow you to receive instant feedback from code changes in a currently running app through the Compose Preview, both in an emulator or on a physical device.
Other changes in Canary include a new google Play SDK Index to view dependency insights, Firebase Crashlytics in Android Studio, and a resizable Android Emulator. Google is aiming to get feedback from developers about their new Android development software, before releasing them or incorporating them with a more stable version.
Android Jetpack has more tools for developers, such as improved access to the latest API and tools for building high performance apps. Jetpack Compose 2.0 is now in beta, allowing developers to start building apps for Google’s Android Wear OS platform, including the new Pixel Watch.
Google announced a range of improvements on this day, including new Jetpack and Android Studio tools. Other companies are also integrating AI into their products, such as the form of Alexa with the Amazon Echo and Google Assistant with their Android smartphone. And, of course, Android 13 is a big part of Google I/O, with plenty of new APIs and tools for developers to integrate.
