eSIM | No physical card configuration
One of the most talked about features of the newly released iPhone XS, XS Max and XR is that it comes with dual SIM support. Apple has now included a dual SIM card with their phones for the first time. But this will only be the case for phones released in China. In the rest of the world, there will be a combo SIM and eSIM.
The eSIM is a programmable virtual SIM, which eliminates the need for a physical card on a device. It’s easy to use and set up remotely without you having to visit the store or put a physical SIM card in. It has been used in other devices, for example, Google Pixel 2 smartphone.
New iPhones, like the Xs and Xr, will support dual-SIM cards after an update to iOS 12. By default, the nano SIM will be your primary one. You can easily switch to your eSIM as the secondary with one click on your device. You will, however, be able to adjust the configuration so that the eSIM becomes your main SIM of your device.
The eSIM will be available only in certain markets and on certain networks for the new iPhones.
