Wikipedia on Tor network

Countries that want to block or censor the website have used different methods. Sometimes, they have blockaded IP addresses and prevented access while other times they have worked with ISPs to shut down access.

Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia service that has a high level of information on many topics. It has been in existence for a long time, and on the whole it’s been very popular with users.

Many countries implemented rules that limit access to online content, but in recent years there’s been a lot of pushback. China has blocked Google services and Turkey has blocked Wikipedia.

Organizations around the world are protesting movements made by their governments against their own people. Different groups try different things to make their voices heard. One former Facebook engineer created his own version of Wikipedia within the Tor network.

Muffet’s announcement excited the whole community and gave everybody a slight idea that this could actually become a reality. Sadly, he didn’t manage to get it up and running during the time frame where he had announced that it would. In the past, Tor hidden services allowed people to use Facebook. This was done so that the social media site would be available for anyone who wanted to use it and is still very much active today with over 3 million users.
