World’s first commercial 5G network | 5G Supernet
Today, Qatar is the first country in the world where 5G mobile services are available. Experts believe this is an incredible achievement for the Ooredoo company.
Ooredoo has just announced the launch of its 5G Supernet. This is available in Qatar’s capital Doha and is “world’s first commercially available 5G network”. It will be compliant with the latest industry standards and support the next generation of networking.
Ooredoo’s aggressive push towards 5G deployment has been ongoing since 2016, and it has already completed the necessary local 5G infrastructure, then launched a trial with Qatar Airways to test out their 5G business services.
Ooredoo’s past offers of a special “5G speed experience” to their VIP customers caught the attention of ZTE, who has helped with commercializing the software for devices.
Today’s announcement talks about the “first stage” Supernet in the 3.5GHz spectrum band. This covers a multi-mile range from “Pearl Qatar Island” to “Hamad International Airport”. Ooredoo promises that the coverage will also spread further in “even more areas” in the coming months.
Ooredoo proudly reported that: “We are the first company in the world to offer access to 5G technology and services, and the people of Qatar are the first to have access to the incredible benefits this technology upgrade will bring. This network will provide the necessary foundation to introduce a wave of new innovations, including motor vehicles, smart roads, virtual and augmented reality, and more”.
