Colour TV “entered” our lives! | Techday, February 28th
On this TECHDAY in history, on February 28th 1954, colored television is introduced to the public. The first color television sets used the NTSC standard, a standard used in the Americas, Japan and a few other places.
Television transmissions gradually included color information for the pictures, improving the monochrome, grasy-scale imagery. Broadcasting stations between the decades 1960s and 1980s all over the world upgraded to the color transmission technology. Naturally, with this standard invented, the television technology marked a great leap.
Fun fact, the idea of acolor images has been concieved earlier. Back in the 1880s these transmissions would be possible using mechanical scanners. Advancement of this civilian technology, of course, frozen during the years of war. In the post-war period the NTSC color standard evolved and the color television started outselling the monochrome black and white units. Amazing!
