The Homebrew Computer Club first assembly | Techday, March 3rd
On this TECHDAY in history, on March 3rd 1975, The Homebrew Computer Club meets for the first time in a garage in Menlo Park, California. The small Club played a key role in the birth of Silicon Valley. In an age dominated by assembled kits such as the MITS Altair 8800, kits targeted a specialized audience. Students then in the fields of electronics and programming, there were more than 30 members in the team. Many of those would later become “big players” in the field of home computers. From the hobbyists and assemblers of the Homebrew Computer Club, created to promote computers to the general public, in the coming years emerged distinguished personalities. Brave examples are Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak of Apple, Lee Felsenstein, Adam Osborne of Osborne computers and Jerry Lawson of Fairchild Channel F. The newsletter published by the club from 1975 to 1986 contains some of the most important and influential texts of the era.
