PC-GR TECHDAY 18 July Tech giant’s birth

Intel founding | Techday, July 18th

On this TECHDAY in history, on July 18th 1968, was the founding of the world’s premier processor manufacturer, Intel. Robert Noyce, Andy Grove and Gordon Moore started it. They were pioneers in semiconductor manufacturing. The company was build on the production of the microprocessor, which has allowed computers to greatly increase their speed and decrease their size over the years. Intel’s processors nowadays power the majority of the world’s PCs.

The company’s origan name was N M Electronics, but later renamed to Intel, a shortened version of “Integrated Electronics.” In 1971, Intel introduced the world’s first microprocessor, the Intel 4004. This tiny computer on a chip was used in a wide range of products, from calculators to cars.

In the 1980s, Intel’s microprocessors became the standard for IBM-compatible PCs, and the company’s revenues grew rapidly. The company also developed new memory chips, such as the DRAM, which helped to fuel the growth of the personal computer market.

In the 1990s, Intel introduced the Pentium line of microprocessors, which became the standard for home and business PCs. The company also expanded into other areas of the semiconductor industry, such as communications and networking.

In the 2000s, Intel continued to innovate and introduced new microprocessors and technologies such as multi-core processors, which allowed for better performance and energy efficiency. Today, Intel is one of the largest and most successful semiconductor companies in the world.
