Agreement between State and EETT
Following the recommendation of the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT), the Ministries of Digital Governance and environment and energy signed the joint ministerial decision for the operation of a widely used satellite Internet in Greece.
The JMD:
- Updates the special procedure for the licensing of the installation of standard antenna structures.
- Establishes a new regulatory framework for the installation of standard antennas that meet specific technical safety standards. These antennas will be used by the companies to provide consumers with satellite internet services, ensuring a stable connection at high speeds and low response time.
This decision aims to provide access to satellite internet services in remote and isolated areas. In areas where traditional terrestrial internet infrastructure is not available. The goal is to improve digital connectivity and bridge the digital divide in Greece, providing equal opportunities for citizens and businesses.
The satellite internet services will be delivered through a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit and will provide high-speed and reliable internet connectivity. The system will also be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, with low emissions and a reduced carbon footprint compared to other satellite systems.
The implementation of this initiative will also create new jobs and support the development of the digital economy in Greece. It will also promote the use of modern technologies and innovative solutions for digital governance and environmental protection.
The joint ministerial decision is a major step forward in the development of digital infrastructure in Greece. It will play a crucial role in achieving the country’s digital agenda and goals. The satellite internet services will contribute to the country’s overall economic development.
