Samsung supports old smartphones | Offers software compatibility
Recent updates to the Galaxy S6 and galaxy S6 Edge were done thanks to the January 2019 security patch. It’s really nice that Samsung is helping them get their update, especially since they aren’t on Samsung’s quarterly update schedule and these devices deserve it. Unfortunately, older model can receive updates compatible until just a point. Beyond that, the company cannot release, due to the architecture, an update that could support models released with a few years apart gap.
Samsung made headlines with their decision to put the Galaxy A5 2016 on the quarterly update schedule. While the Galaxy S7 and the newer models, like the Galaxy S9, will benefit from this new app for Android users – we hope that Samsung releases three major updates to its OS by 2020. Previous J series models were only getting what would be considered two major updates on average.
