The largest data center facilities
The latest report by DataCentresPricing.com has declared that the UK is home to the largest data center facilities in Europe.
They cover a land area of 840,000 sqm, much larger in area than Germany’s at 509,000 sqm.
It sounds like the UK is going to be seeing even more new data centers being built in 12 months’ time. This will add a further 40,000 sqm of data centres to their total every year. Plans are in the works to expand data centers in London, Farnborough and Cardiff over the course of the next year.
The new data centres have been strategically set up in big cities for their important strategic value. These cities include Edinburgh, Leeds and Newcastle.
Although the UK has the largest data center facilities in the whole of Europe, it is surprisingly not the most expensive – but that is also why it’s such an attractive option to businesses. The average cost per square metre in the UK is around €1,000, while Switzerland and Ireland charge much higher rates.
