
Amazon abandons AI in recruiting
Amazon is always experimenting with new technologies and recently added an artificial intelligence program to find the best candidates.
Except, the algorithm was too extreme and didn’t want any female employees. That’s the reason it’s a thing of the past.
The A.I was vetted for its abilities in mining data from CVs and accurately analyzing these traits, which then were matched against the personality profiles of 50,000 people. It scanned the internet to find the most likely candidates it could find.
“They literally wanted it to be a machine where you would put 100 CVs in and it would come up with the top five and we would hire them,” an unnamed source told Reuters. However, a year later, researchers noticed that the machine had become biased towards women.
The problem is that it was collecting information from a field full of mostly male applicants. This means that the most likely outcome of their research was to hire mostly men.
