Vulnerability in Torrent programs | BitTorrent and uTorrent included

Google security researcher’s, Tavis Ormandy, findings are making the rounds on the internet. Another vulnerability has been found that threatens many users. Ormandy in his report analyzes DNS rebinding type vulnerabilities that affect BitTorrent and uTorrent programs. In case a malicious user exploits them, they can gain access to computer systems with the rights to execute code, download and install third-party software and explore recently downloaded files.

He posted his concerns regarding the vulnerabilities, as well as how the developers of the torrent programs in question addressed the findings at first hand. Fortunately various sources as well as the Vice President of BitTorrent Development confirmed the fixes for the programming errors in the new beta versions of the software, as well as stressed that they will be coming in the next updates for the stable versions.

Currently no reports of hackers emerged using the vulnerabilities. Users should update their torrent programs to the latest versions immediately, just in case.
