Earth’s Robot population

The World Federation of Robotics (IFT) certifies that the number of robots in various uses is experiencing a significant increase. Experts define “robot density” as the number of robots per unit of measurement of employees in order to identify the extent to which the global use of machines in industrial production and beyond is increasing. The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) metrics certify that there are 74 robots for every 10,000 employees globally.

The biggest number of robots appears to be in Europe, where the density is 99 per 10,000 workers, while the same number in the Americas is 84. In Asia this number is 63, as low labour costs seem to play a role there. The proportion of robots worldwide is increasing with the global average being 66 robots per 10,000 employees during 2015. China and South Korea are two of the countries where the use of robots is increasing, with the latter piquing the interest as there is 8 times the density of robots occurring there compared to the global average.
