D-Wave Systems, the company has revealed that it has more than doubled the processing capabilities of its quantum computing platform, although it currently has no plans to commercialise them. However, they plan to do so sometime by mid-2020.
Super-powered quantum computer called Pegasus has been released which boasts the ability to solve major problems than traditional computers can with a reduced number of qubits. This is more efficient and cost effective. This quantum computer can solve complex problems with much faster speeds than conventional computers. It is able to complete tasks in a limited period of time that the competition, such as those from Rigetti, IBM, and Google. Although D-Wave’s quantum computer uses more qubits, it is not necessarily more powerful than those of its competitors.
The Pegasus machine from D-Wave will be available to developers via the Leap platform, where you can experiment with quantum applications and quantum systems by using simulation tools .
Alan Baratz, head of product at D-Wave, said: “With our painstakingly built next-generation platform, we are essentially investing in things like connectivity, hybrid software and other advanced tools to enable our customers to solve even more complex problems at a larger scale, with the ultimate goal of giving more impetus to quantum applications that have so far been on the fringes.”
The aforementioned added: “We have made a commitment to our customers that we will constantly move forward at a highly progressive pace, introducing new innovative proposals, which reflects our efforts to help developers learn how quantum systems work and consequently create their own quantum applications.”
