Ericsson Mobility Report

The predictions of 2.6 billion mobile broadband subscriptions in 2022 is staggering. It proves that even the most ambitious goals are achievable for businesses operating in an ever-evolving space.

Mobile broadband networks are growing rapidly and will grow even more by the end of 2020. This will increase the number of mobile users by almost 2.6 billion. That is about the equivalent to 20 stadiums, of 50,000 capacity, being full every day. Thousands of people in New York went to Times Square on New Year’s Eve to celebrate

Ericsson presented in the Mobility Report, published in June, the latest collection of statistics on mobile networks and their subscribers. India’s mobile data is booming and is continuing to grow. It’s been 5 years since data peaked. The report highlights how other countries are following suit in the incredible growth path seen in India.

The use of smartphone type devices and easy access to mobile internet services are an important part of driving telecom traffic. Nowadays, smartphones become widespread and people connect with friends on their phones rather than social media. There is, thus, an increasing need for a smart way of transitioning to new ideas. Most people who use these innovating features have reported that they love the better social life they have thanks to these devices.

Traffic is constantly increasing which has to do with an influx of people using Netflix over the span of a month. If this were to happen in reality there wouldn’t be enough housing for everyone.

In 2018, LTE will overtake GSM as the dominant access technology by subscriber numbers. With this technology, the speed at which it grows is unprecedented. In just 5 years, 2.5 billion people have access to 4G LTE through 3G WCDMA and 250 million new subscribers were added in Q1 of 2017 alone.

Technological advancements in telecommunications allow for a better user experience & easier communication. We hope this will become the new norm across multiple industries. The increasing demand for faster networks is pushing companies to invest in next-generation solutions. They will in turn result in the rollout of 5G networks. 5G devices are expected to be used by over 150 million people around the world by 2022 and cover almost 15% of the world’s population with one type of technology. In 2018, 5G will have more than 500M subscribers.
