Facebook harms health
Although you may feel better by collecting hundreds of Facebook friends, in reality it can make you sick.
One of the more recent research discoveries from Regis University is that people with more friends on social media sites suffer more from health issues, including upper respiratory infections.
Experts say that people who spend a lot of time on Facebook are more likely to get infected, too.
Many users experience a sense of anxiety when they don’t hear back from others. This can make them feel anxious, even if their “friends” don’t reply to comments or messages.
The researchers looked at the responses of 89 students who completed a survey about their health and Facebook usage. So the experts followed participants for 10 weeks, keeping an eye out for any respiratory infections.
They found that stress caused by Facebook use leads to a higher number of infections and those who have more FB friends report experiencing more feelings of stress and anxiety.
The study’s lead author, Jay P. Campisi, said:
“If you want to feel happier or have better health, make a point of not relying on your phone or computer for entertainment.”
