World’s first flexible micro-LED display by Royole
Royole has unveiled the world’s first flexible micro-LED display 2.7” , resolution that can be stretched by 130% and rotated by 40ยฐ. According to Royole, the resolution can reach up to 120ppi. The display uses microscopic LEDs to emit light. It allows for flexible and ultra-thin displays that are more efficient and have better contrast compared to traditional displays. The micro-LED technology used by Royole also offers a wider color gamut and improved brightness, making it suitable for various applications, including wearable devices, smartphones, and televisions.
One of the key benefits of micro-LEDs is that they are of inorganic materials, which makes them more durable and longer-lasting compared to traditional OLEDs. This makes them a promising technology for flexible displays that can bend and twist without affecting their performance. Additionally, the micro-LEDs can be directly on a flexible substrate, eliminating the need for an additional layer to hold the LEDs.
The flexible micro-LED display from Royole has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The display is also extremely thin, with a thickness of only 0.01mm. This makes it ideal for wearable devices and flexible screens that need to be as light and thin as possible.
This display is very handy for mounting on smart car windscreens and sunglasses. However, the company says that it is ready to mass produce, which will bring big twists.
