Free WiFi across Europe
The European Commission will publish a call tomorrow for WiFi4EU. This program will enable more than 2,800 municipalities in Europe to install free WiFi networks in public spaces.
The European Commission has announced three more calls, providing €120 million to 8,000 municipalities by 2020.
This network will be a great relief for people because it is ad-free and; does not collect personal data.
In order to apply for the WiFi4EU voucher, municipalities will need to register online and then be able to go on with the procedure with a single click. So far, more than one in five European municipalities have registered their details on the dedicated WiFi4EU portal. Until the last call on November 7th, municipalities that have not already registered can apply for a voucher. This initiative will make it easier for the city to expand WiFi access in public areas, such as town hall.
The upcoming call with 2,800 municipalities will offer a WiFi4EU voucher, guaranteeing each EU Member State will receive at least 15 vouchers.
Three more WiFi4EU calls will be published every 6 months over the next two years.
