
Greeks on online shopping
There has been an increase in internet users browsing and shopping on their mobiles, tablets and PCs. three out of five Greeks having made a purchase online in recent times according to a survey by Focus Bari.
This is no surprise, as people in the 25 to 44 year-old range are the most familiar with online shopping. More specifically, a whopping 72% of them have bought goods or services from an ecommerce platform in the last six months. There may be an evergrowing numbers of older internet users. Only 35% of them, though, have completed an online purchase in the last six months.
The increased penetration of smartphones has led more customers to the internet to purchase goods and services. 82% of Greeks own a “smart” phone and 77% use it to get online. 46% spend at least an hour per day browsing the web on their phone. A staggering 83% of households that have internet access will use the phone primarily and then their laptop secondarily.
Young people seem to lead the way for online use. Greeks spend an average of 3.5 hours a day on the net. This number is higher in younger age groups. Younger people spend a lot of time on the Internet, especially 18-24 year olds who spend an average 5 hours a day.
A lot of Greeks visit social media often to keep up with the latest news and trends. Three out of five people are on social media for a least an hour every day, one in four spend more than one hour on it.
There are 1.542 million households who have pay TV in Greece and it is a popular habit as it is an integral part of their entertainment culture.
