
Buses will be electric by 2025
With electric public buses becoming more and more popular around the world, China’s industry is set to rise in an effort to reduce air pollution. The country’s policy for many years has also been to support domestic manufacturing. The total number of active electric buses today is projected to more than triple. Reaching around 1.2 million in just a few years, in 2025, it accounted for 47% of the world’s urban bus fleet. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Electric buses remain more expensive to acquire than conventional buses. However, they are proving to be more cost-effective down the line in terms of running and maintenance costs. Indeed, the expected fall in the price of batteries will also have made the initial cost of an electric model lower than that of a diesel model by 2026.
That is quite a notable initiative from the Chinese government to include electricity powered buses in the fleet. Objectively, this measure would give only a breath of hope for the country’s air pollution levels.
