It was 2019 when the Walkman turned 40 years old. But something strange happened that year: cassette sales defied the age of streaming and had its best year in 15 years!
Even though Sony Walkman obviously doesn’t need an introduction, it still needs something new to attract customers: cassettes.
Retro products are coming back into style and BPI tells us something pretty amazing. They say that 80,000 cassettes were sold in the UK last year – so it would seem that Hong Kong company is getting in one of the action with something that oozes nostalgia too.
When Ninm Lab asked people if they wanted a new cassette player, 978 backers answered yes and that’s why the It’s OK player has come out. The new portable cassette player is part of a recent trend to make the tapes fashionable again in the 21st century.
So what does it offer? Bluetooth for convenience, no setup time to play, the design is clean and reminiscent of the Walkman’s past.
On the downside, things that are alienating today such as mono audio
It’s OK is a new affordable product and it even uses the latest Bluetooth 5.0 protocol. It has a built-in mic for home recording to tape and connection to wireless headphones.
With a clip to attach to your clothes, this case is bringing back 80s fashion.
