Jon Peddie Research firm made a stunning estimation by tracking GPU shipments from factories. Nvidia and AMD sold 12 million PC graphics cards in the first quarter of the year alone. Estimations also have shown that all year round consumers buy graphic cards. In this year quarter, the GPU market seems to be growing again, slowly but steadily. In comparison with last year, the conditions began to change and not only sales, but production increased. The growing popularity of PC gaming has skyrocketed interest on high performance GPUs.
That marks a 7% increase from Q4, when Nvidia and AMD sold over 11 million cards. In the said trimester, consumers showed an obviously increased interest to buy graphic cards. Notingly, Nvidia’s GPU line ordered about 80% of the cards, while AMD ordered only the remaining 20%.
Despite the astronomical sales number, GPU supplies were not enough to meet demand. The ongoing shortage of graphic cards remains, but according to estimates, will improve after the shutdown of factories.
