iPhone X / 8: How Face ID works
The iPhone 8/X is officially launching in about 24 hours and developers are using the leaked iOS 11 Gold Master to find out as much information about the device as possible. One feature that sets it apart from its predecessors is its facial recognition software.
Unlike recent phones released by Apple, the iPhone 8 won’t have Touch ID because it features an OLED display. The company decided on FaceID instead. Instead of scanning fingerprints, this phone scans your face.
An Apple developer found information on how the Face ID setup will work, a feature that Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had called “revolutionary”.
The iPhone X will be able to recognize your face ID using 3D scanning technology. This will allow you to unlock the device or use Apple Pay without having to enter a passcode every time. The new iPhone models from Apple – the 8th & 10th edition – have been released and features a new security technology called Face ID. This makes it so that you can easily unlock or sign into your phone, for instance, with just facial recognition.
Last year, Apple acquired the Israeli company RealFace for $25 million. Apparently this acquisition has led to their inclusion of this groundbreaking feature. The software will scan your face and create a 3D map on your phone. The software is so precise that it can distinguish two identical twins with near perfect accuracy, which has made the technology sensitive in some ways.
