Microsoft Studios Now Renamed
Microsoft has renamed its video game development division from the current Microsoft Studios to Xbox Game Studios.
The name of Microsoft Studios has changed several times to date. Xbox received international acclaim for its iconic 20th anniversary console and is still a worldwide success. It has been a fundamental part to the company’s global profile and brand awareness.
As Microsoft vice president Matt Booty explained, the new name is more aligned with “the current mission of the Xbox team,” to add “as we’ve expanded our focus beyond the console itself, the Xbox brand has also evolved from its original roots.”
“Today, Xbox is a gaming brand for every kind of device, no matter how or where you want to play or who you want to play with,” the Microsoft executive concluded.
The “Xbox Game Studios” will have 13 development teams, including Rare, Obsidian Entertainment, 343 Industries, and Ninja Theory. They’ve got a lot to do right now – including developing games like Halo, Minecraft and Sea of Thieves.
Xbox Game Studios’ next release is Crackdown 3. It originally was scheduled to launch in November 2016 but was postponed twice and February has now become the third launch time.
