New cheaper Disney+ subscription
Following in the footsteps of HBO Max, Disney+ has also announced that it will offer a cheaper subscription to its streaming service by showing ads. Of course apart from the ad-supported subscription the ad-free one will remain as is. Analysts expect that Disney Plus will grow internationally within the next year.
No word yet on the cost of the service, nor when it will become available. What we do know for now is that it will initially be available in the United States and will become available internationally starting in 2023.
The company’s goal with this move is to increase subscribers at least twofold by 2024, since it still has about 130 million as opposed to Netflix which is flirting with 250 million.
We should note that, as of today, the prices of the lower tier subscription are still unknown. It will certainly be, though, lower than two digits per month. When the service launched back in November 2019, the monthly subscription was at $7 a month. The price went up some time later, back in March 2021 by a $1 per month.
The ranks of streaming services have swelled. It is very positive that Disney+ will offer a cheaper option so as to provide services for all people, including even the more price-sensitive ones.
