New rules for personal data by Google

New rules for personal data by Google

Following in Apple’s footsteps, Google has announced that by 2024 it will have adopted a new system of targeted ads. The system will differ from the one it has now, preventing tracking from apps on Android devices. The company’s representative made a statement on the matter. “Our goal with this new system is to develop effective privacy-enhancing advertising solutions. With this new system, users will know their information is protected at all costs,” she said.

One plan to more securely manage personal data is to develop a unique ”character string”. The so called string will act as a digital identity and authenticate the user’s device. This useful tool can be used also for advertisers and users to share personal data.

A big blow seems to be dealt to Meta by Google’s decision. This has happened since it relies on user tracking and already Apple’s decision to change its privacy regulation had resulted in a $10 billion drop in sales and its value had fallen $232 billion.

Until the new Google rules come into effect, companies are given two years to incorporate the changes into their systems.
