New services from Google Maps
Google Maps announced a series of tools that take on the task of making our lives easier. Maps can show us around a city first visiting or help us relive an experience when we come back home.
Now, using the Google Maps app, you can store flight and hotel reservations in a central location. On the top left of your screen tap the three grey lines then select “Your Places”. Then we tap “Reservations” and see the list of all upcoming trips. Once we select the one we want, it displays all the reservations that have been made so far. We can access them even if we’re not online.
Exploring a new city by foot is a great way to experience it firsthand. However, it can be hard to know the right direction and the best route to take. Among other new services, with the Live View you can use Augmented Reality (AR) to see how far away you are from a destination. Signs and arrows are on the map to help you find your way and show you the correct path. In the past few months, Live View has been tested against local Maps and on Google Pixel users and starting this week, the beta is being extended to ARCore/ARKit-supported Android and iOS devices.
Google Maps and Your Match are apps that let you find the perfect restaurant. They show you up-to-date information on how long the wait time is, what the food is like (so you know if it’s even worth making a reservation) and where to book without ever having to leave your app. With their popular dishes service, you can easily find dishes you should be try.
It’s worth mentioning though – the best part of a fantastic trip is really being able to share it and reminisce with those we love. New update to Timeline makes it easy to keep track of memorable experiences and places. When traveling abroad, you get to see all your previous destinations and search for even more of those past sites. You can visit them or seek out their locations based on type, such as restaurants, shops, attractions or hotels.
You can now see your flight and hotel bookings among all new services in Live View (in countries where Street View is available) and in the coming weeks, new Timeline will be available for viewing on your phone devices. Reservations and Live View will be available soon to Android and iOS, while the new Timeline is available on Android.
