The Canon Cat features a Motorola 68000 processor at 5MHz with RAM memory of 256kB. The computer was equipped with a FDD floppy disk of 3.5″ and the operational system run was FORTH. The model has monochromic display on monitor and a case of desktop type. Without making use of a pointer, the computer uses a text user interface for better data manipulation, with a special keyboard as well.
Canon Inc. released on 1987 a powerful task-dedicated desktop computer unlike others from these decades. The originator was Apple Macintosh’s creator, Jef Raskin. After leaving the company he began designing the less expensive so called people’s computer. Was it an heir to the series or was it the real Macintosh? Even at that time, consumers and tech specialists alike wondered.
