The Danger Hiptop/Sidekick features a GSM Network connection without antenna nor Wifi, but including Bluetooth. The operating system was the manufacturer’s and had monochromic display and polyphonic sound.
Danger Inc. specialized in the mobile computing division. Originally, the company’s founder were former Apple Inc. employees, Andy Rubin and Matt Hershenson. Most notable mobile series were the Sidekick ones, manufactured and marketed in conjunction with corporations like T Mobile, Sharp, Motorola and Flextronics to different country markets.
Thanks to the close partnership with T Mobile, the Hiptop/Sidekick series became overwhelmingly popular in the US market. With success a grand commercial success, the product line continued manufacture for almost a decade.
In dark moment in the company’s history was the 2009 grand data loss. Due to server malfunction and lack of data storage on at least local servers, users’ data was lost and took over two months to be restored. The data lost then was hosted in Microsoft servers, that didn’t keep an active backup.
