The IBM PC Junior features an Intel 8088 processor at 4.77 MHz and memory of 64kB. Equipped with a floppy disk of 5.25” it runs with the operating system of the MS DOS version.
IBM marketed this personal home computer between 1984 and 1985 with a rather unsuccessful presence in the market. It was intended as a low cost variant to the IBM PC, better suited for videogames while remaining competitive to the Apple II and Commodore 64 counterparts. Actually, it featured very mediocre hardware with major problems at compatibility with the IBM PC and poor quality in the software library as well. During the following the years, IBM introduced the PS/1 brand, similar line to the IBM PCJr, with the PS/2 business line being more valuable as the IBM PC accordingly.
