The Timex Computer 2048 features a Zilog Z80A processor at 3.5 MHz and memory of 48kB. It runs with the operating system of the Basic Sinclair version.
Timex Sinclair, the joint venture of Timex Computers and Sinclair Research prepared to launch on the early ‘80s the “first computer under 100$”. Of course the computer would target home users, with medium demands and requirements for a device with common features. The first home computer of the series, the Timex Sinclair 1000 was bottom line a slightly modified version of the popular ZX81. Other newer models, such as the present computer were compatible with the ZX Spectrum, the best selling computer in the UK at the time.
For the joint company though not many models met success. The T/S 2068 and 1500, for example, were failures for the Timex Sinclair series. Timex Portugal was notably successful. Models produced in the country, such as the Timex Computer 2048 in the Portuguese and Polish markets.
